During the steam sterilization process, steam penetrates the indicator strip, causing the steam-sensitive chemical to melt and migrate across the window. The emulating chemical indicator confirms that all critical steam sterilization parameters have been met when the dark line extends into the "ACCEPT (OK)" window.
