STERIS Medical Equipment & Device Lifecycle Management

Service Product Lifecycle

STERIS Lifecycle Management process aims to support STERIS equipment from product install to the eventual repair through replacement of equipment. The goal of the service lifecycle process is to help Customers better plan for future service stages of equipment. Within the process, there are four key stages of medical equipment or device’s lifecycle:

Service Active: Describes the lifecycle stage when products are installed. The service associated with these products is known as “Service Active.”

Service Mature: Represents medical equipment and devices that have been working in the field for a while but may now require excessive repairs. At this point, the service stage has become “Service Mature.”

Service Obsolete: Describes the phase when the products have parts that are no longer available. At this point, the stage is known as “Service Obsolete.”

No Longer Serviceable: Represents the final stage. At this point, STERIS has decided to no longer service the product.

Service Mature

Service Part Requirements by Lifecycle Stage

As equipment moves through STERIS Service’s product lifecycle, the availability of parts and the ability to easily repair the equipment changes over time. The equipment parts eventually become obsolete as new technology is designed. When a product enters the “Service Mature” stage, it is recommended to consider purchasing a newer model since parts may be less available. When a product enters the “Service Obsolete” stage, the parts are obsolete and therefore it is recommended to purchase newer equipment in order to maximize uptime. Finally, at the “No Longer Serviceable” stage, STERIS has decided to no longer service the equipment.

Service Active

  • Parts available
  • Engineering support

Service Mature

  • Parts harder to procure or may not be available

  • May be approaching useful life

Service Obsolete

  • Parts are obsolete
  • No engineering support
  • Recommended replacement
  • Equipment is beyond useful life

No Longer Serviceable

  • STERIS has decided to no longer service equipment
