Product Overview

The ENDO-LEAK Tester from STERIS is a mechanical wet leak tester used during the manual cleaning step, after visual inspection, when reprocessing flexible endoscopes in healthcare facilities. Leak testing helps to check for microscopic holes (leaks) in flexible endoscopes, helping to identify hidden damage that could prevent proper reprocessing. A leak in an endoscope can also cause water damage and further costly repairs.

How the ENDO-LEAK Tester Works

Leak testing is a vital step in the endoscope reprocessing workflow. Performing this test correctly not only helps to support compliance with each scope Instructions for Use (IFU), but it also helps technicians detect hidden damage that may not be visible to the naked eye.

Endoscope leak testing with the ENDO-LEAK Tester is performed using wet leak testing (submerging in water while the scope is pressurized) or manual leak testing with the included gauge and adapter to find air escaping from the scope's channels and exterior.

Leak-Test Procedures

• How often should endoscope leak testing be performed?

  Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use on the frequency and process for performing leak testing on endoscopes. Typically, every endoscope should be tested for leaks after each use, during the manual cleaning process. Additionally, a leak test should be performed after any event that could cause damage to the endoscope.

• How do you perform a leak test on a flexible endoscope?

  Always follow the device and endoscope manufacturer's instructions for use (IFU) when performing a leak test. The general steps to perform endoscope leak testing include:

  Mechanical Wet Leak Test Using the ENDO-LEAK Tester

  • Connect the unit and press RUN to clear the air
  • Attach the adapter, pressurize, and wait 30 seconds
  • Submerge the scope in water, flex controls, and look for bubbles
  • Remove the scope from the water
  • Press STOP, wait 10 seconds, then disconnect

  Manual Dry Leak Test Using the included Gauge and Adapter

  • Attach the leak tester to the endoscope
  • Pressurize until the gauge is in the green zone
  • Move control knobs; if pressure holds for two minutes, the scope is airtight
  • Release air after testing
