STERIS
Recognized for Innovation
STERIS Corporation is pleased to announce that it has been
awarded a NorTech Innovation Award for the development
of a large-scale decontamination system which utilizes
the Company’s proprietary VHP® hydrogen peroxide
decontamination technology including Vaprox® Hydrogen
Peroxide Sterilant.
This technology has been widely used in the pharmaceutical
and research industries for biodecontamination of aseptic
processing environments and clean rooms of up to 7,000 cubic
square feet. In response to the anthrax attacks in October
2001, STERIS expanded upon its existing technology by developing
a scaled-up decontamination system that is effective in decontaminating
buildings up to 1.4 million cubic square feet. The enlarged
system was utilized on two federal buildings contaminated
in the 2001 anthrax attacks.
"Strategic Technology Enterprises (STE) developed the
large-scale decontamination
system in an effort to respond to an identified bioterrorism
threat to our society. STE is actively engaged in developing
innovative technology solutions that assist the homeland
security, transportation, defense, space, building decontamination,
and food and beverage industries”, says Gerry Reis,
Senior Vice President and President of Strategic Technology
Enterprises, Inc., a subsidiary of STERIS Corporation. “We
are proud and grateful to have pioneered the first deployment
of VHP technology to combat the threat posed by the intentional
release of a weaponized biological agent.”
